The journal «ARO» (Annali Reviews Online) was established in 2018 with the aim of promoting the dissemination of research and fostering the transnational dialogue between historical science specialists. Available in open access, ARO engages with the most recent publications concerning European history, with a special focus on the German and Italian contexts. ARO has an epoch-spanning, interdisciplinary and international approach to different historical periods.
Each issue opens with a Forum addressing recent key debates in the field of historiography or focusing on works of particular relevance for the topics dealt with by the research center to which the journal belongs, the Istituto Storico Italo-Germanico (ISIG) of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK). The journal appears every four months and publishes each year around 75 reviews in four languages: Italian, German, English and French.
The Editorial Board is based at ISIG and is supported by about 170 authors from Italy, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Argentina, the United States and Canada. The reviews are handled by a team of specialized editors and the realization of the journal is made possible thanks to the availability of around 120 Italian and foreign publishers.
The single reviews, as well as the various issues, can be downloaded for free in PDF format. Moreover, ARO digital platform hosts in the section “Archive” the reviews of the “Annali dell’Istituto Italo-Germanico / Jahrbuch des Italienisch-Deutschen Instituts”, appeared already in paper version in the years 2011-2017.
The increasing number of users confirms that the choice of an open access publication is the most appropriate and allows us to keep up with the new trends in international scientific publishing, thus reaching a continuously growing audience.
