Matteo Calcagni is PhD Researcher in early modern history at the European University Institute. His research project 'Hard Times in the Levant' focuses on the mobility of Tuscan traders in the Mediterranean between the late 17th and early 18th centuries and mainly deals with the unknown activities of Francesco and Domenico Adami, two merchant brothers from Livorno who left Tuscany to seek their fortune in the Levant. Also, He has made some significant discoveries of unknown archival collections scattered throughout Tuscany.
